2023 Candidate list

8/9/2023

Picture
It's official ... we now have our list of 2023 school board candidates for the Forest Hills School District (FHSD). They've turned in their petitions and while one candidate is still waiting to have his signatures confirmed, it is likely district residents will see these names on the ballot for FHSD school board on November 7th, 2023. While Advocate FHSD does not endorse candidates, we are committed to presenting election information as quickly and as accurately as possible.

Candidates for the board

Wendy Strickler-Biederman

This isn't Wendy's first time at this rodeo. Having campaigned for school board in 2021, Wendy announced her run for the board in February with a video. Wendy has been a resident of the district for nearly 20 years, is a mom of three students in the FHSD schools, has a PhD in School Psychology, and has a demonstrated history of engagement and volunteerism within the district most recently supporting the efforts to pass the school Levy in May of 2023. Wendy's campaign website outlines her background and reasons for running.

Kevin Comerford

A 31-year-old FHSD grad, Kevin works at 5/3rd as a Treasury Manager Sales Associate, according to his LinkedIn page. Kevin's campaign website outlines his motivation to run, his engagement with the township and his position with the Young Republicans. While his page does not mention any engagement or volunteerism at the school district - particularly with the recent school levy - it does state he is a regular board meeting attendee, although our research shows sign-in sheets do not support this statement with evidence. Kevin was recently observed attending a Finance Committee meeting alongside Board President Linda Hausfeld and Sara Jonas in August.

Jason Simmons

Jason is a professor at UC, earned a Master's degree in Sports Administration and a PhD in Educational Leadership and Organizational Development. Jason has lived in the district with his family for nearly a decade, and also has a student enrolled in the Forest Hills School district. Jason recently volunteered to support passing the Levy in May, and has spoken publicly about the current board's attempt to consolidate schools. Jason's website contains additional information about his motivation for running for the school board.

Ken Kuhn

Ken is a 35-year resident of the district. Ken's LinkedIn page shows he is leading a start-up pet insurance company, Ken has had a long career in the insurance industry. He recently has attended a number of board meetings, and created a series of videos posted to Rumble outlining questions he has asked about district finances, often ending the recording with "I've got more questions than answers". Ken's website provides additional background on his perspectives and motivation for campaigning.

Kris Wahlke

Kris is a long-time resident of Forest Hills school district as well, and a graduate of Anderson High School. Kris posted recently on a local Facebook group that he has a background in accounting and finance, some experience in HR and is intending to be focused on a singular issue — "reinstate Redskins brand." As of the date of this original entry (8/10/2023), Kris' petition is filed but still under review, and no known website for candidacy has been launched.
Stay tuned for more updates as the campaign unfolds.

It would be very helpful to know their positions on some of the controversial issues of recent years, such as diversity, merger of schools and curriculum. Also, mascots, since one one wants to return to Redskins, and pools in the district. Thanks for what you are doing.

Thank you, this information is already helpful in understanding what our choices are.

Wendy & Jason are the antidotes to Kuhn & Comerford. With Hausfeld & Rasmussen not running, electing Wendy & Jason would give a bit more much-needed balance to this board. Anyone who votes for Wahlke is clueless. I am being polite about Wahlke, by the way.
